Fruit

A middle sized deciduous tree reaching 15m in height, bark dark grey or black, exfoliating in rectangular scales, young parts and inflorescence clothed with grey or tawny tomentum. Leaves 6.3-15 cm by 2.5-7 cm. Male flowers in short dropping cluster. Female flowers rather longer than the male, solitary. Fruit round, yellow in colour when ripe.

The bark of the tree possesses astringent properties. Fruits are useful in urinary complaints and is a germicide. Flowers used for skin diseases. The heartwood is black and is used for making furniture. The leaves are mainly used for wrapping "biddis".
