Bark

A deciduous middle sized tree; bark ash coloured, peeling off in thin flakes. Leaves pinnately compound 20-38 cm long crowded at ends of branches. Flowers when leafless. Flowers small white. Fruits 3-valved.

Stem bark is antiseptic, used in cough and cold. Resin is used to treat diarrhoea, dysentery, sores, stomach complaints and veterinary ulcer. Leaves used to cure wounds. In the form of oily solution , it exercises some good influence over the growth of the hair. The gum which exudes from the tree is known as "luban" and has a charming mystic odour. It is used by Sufis and Brahmins for worship.
