A deciduous small or
middle sized sizaed tree green-grey bark, spreading branches. Leaves
10-13 by 2.5-3 mm, light green on deciduous branchlets. Flowers
greenish yellow. Fruits 1.3-1.6 cm diam., fleshy, pale yellow, quite
acidic in taste.
It is very important
medicinal plant. Its fruit is very rich in Vitamin C and iron content.
Fruits are the main constituent in 'chyavan prash'. Bark is used to
treat burns. Leaves for dysentery, wounds and veterinary stomach
disorders. Fruits used for bronchitis, constipation, diabetes, eye
complaints, indigestion, liver complaints, urinal complaints, to
revive taste and as tonic and are diuretic, antieutic and purgative.
Seeds used for asthma, madness and bronchitis. The fruit is
pickled. The wood chips are used for clarifying muddy water.
